Qudus Onikeku’s Re:INCARNATION

Wednesday 18- Thursday 19 September

Nigeria’s celebrated QDance Company explodes onto the stage with this exuberant performance, paying homage to the wealth and breadth of Nigerian music.

In the UK premiere of this piece, ten young dancers and two musicians perform the cycle of life with explosive energy, marked by the urban chaos of the Nigerian city of Lagos.

An ode to the richness of Nigerian culture, this dance, music, fashion and visual art fusion performance showcases the depth of ancient Yoruba philosophy mixed with Nigerian youth culture.

The show draws on Afrobeats, an explosive cocktail of jazz, soul, funk, and traditional African music, to provide a soundtrack for the high-energy choreography, which represents a reincarnation of the personal journeys of each of the dancers.

As described by the Montreal Rampage, this performance is ‘a tremendous piece… QDance Company’s 10 dancers and two musicians command the stage with Broadway-like showmanship.’

QDance Company, led by artistic director Qudus Onikeku, is a Lagos-based contemporary dance company with an international outlook, working with dancers from different cultures and backgrounds.
