Bombino + Les Amazones D’afrique

Sunday 30th October

A sublime evening of West African music, with superstar Tuareg guitarist and singer-songwriter, BOMBINO + the polyrhythmic harmonies of all female supergroup LES AMAZONES D’AFRIQUE.

Opening the evening are Les Amazones d’Afrique, a female collective that has expanded to involve female artists from across Africa and the diaspora.

Formed in Mali by three renowned Malian artists and social change activists, Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré and Mariam Doumbia, their richly melodic and far-ranging music blends pan-African styles and collaborative harmonies with gritty, contemporary pop.

Their debut album ’République Amazone’ featured guest contributions from the likes of Angélique Kidjo and Nigerian singer-songwriter Nneka, and caught the attention of President Obama, who included one of the songs in his 20 favourite tracks of 2017.

Grammy nominated, Bombino, with his captivating vocals, hypnotic, awe-inspiring guitar playing, and evocative rhythms have established himself as one of the world’s greatest guitar players and introduced the world to his own unique musical genre, dubbed ‘Tuareggae’ – a blend of Tuareg guitar with reggae rhythm.

Heavily influenced by Hendrix, the former Nigerian shepherd has carved out a hugely successful musical career – playing with legends such as Keith Richards and Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones) and Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys).
