Celebrate Windrush Day 2025 with a vibrant 5K fun run and walk through the heart of London, paying tribute to the resilience and legacy of the Windrush Generation.
Taking place on Sunday 22 June, this community event brings people of all backgrounds together to reflect, move, and honour those who paved the way.
Organised by Emancipated Run Crew, the route begins at the Windrush Monument at Waterloo Station—a powerful symbol of arrival and new beginnings—and ends at Windrush Square in Brixton, a central gathering place for reflection and remembrance. After the run, participants are invited to a relaxed social hosted by Jamaica National Bank in Brixton, offering a chance to connect and continue the celebration.
Covering approximately 5 kilometres, the route is suitable for all fitness levels. Whether you’re an experienced runner, an enthusiastic walker, or simply joining in for the spirit of the occasion, the event is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. Participants are encouraged to bring flags, whistles, and music, transforming the streets into a joyful procession in honour of those who journeyed across oceans to build a new life in Britain.
This is more than just a run—it’s a living tribute to endurance, determination, and the power of community. It’s about remembering those who arrived in an often-hostile environment and worked tirelessly to build a better future—not just for themselves, but for the generations that followed.
As descendants of the Windrush Generation, participants carry the baton forward—celebrating freedom, strength, and a collective promise to continue shaping a fairer and more inclusive society. This annual event is a heartfelt and spirited way to commemorate Windrush Day.
