This training will use the three-part video series “Race: The Power of an Illusion” to explore the construct of race, how it has been used to channel benefits to those viewed as white, and why racial inequities persist. Through the use of video clips, small group conversations, and learning content participants will be able to:

• Explore the historical roots of race, racism, whiteness and white privilege
• Understand differences between individual racism, institutional racism and structural racism
• Examine beliefs about race and advantage and how these issues impact organizations and institutions
• Demonstrate the ability to recognize institutional racism and white privilege within King County and potential solutions
