The Black Educators Book Club is a new series of events developed by two doctoral researchers (Camille London-Miyo and Malcolm Richards), hosted in partnership with Stephen Lawrence Research Centre and Race Ethnicity and Education Network (REEN).

READINGS

During October 2021, we will be reading ‘What is this “black” in black popular culture?’ by Stuart Hall (1993). This paper will be sent to participants upon registration for the event.

EVENT

This month, our theme is Dialogue and Black educators

On Fri 29 October 2021 @ 12.30pm we will be facilitating a dialogue, and joined by our special guest discussant:

  • MALCOLM RICHARDS (teacher, doctoral researcher – University of Exeter)

Malcolm will consider Hall’s ideas of dialogic approaches emergent from Black popular culture, on the knowledge, histories and traditions of dialogue with Black educators and their impact on transformative praxis within the United Kingdom schooling context.
