Poet, academic, and activist Malik Al Nasir brings his remarkable story to Leicester in this talk based on his acclaimed book Searching for My Slave Roots.
Al Nasir traces a journey that begins with the brutal history of enslavement on Guyana’s sugar plantations, uncovering family connections long buried by the transatlantic slave trade, and follows it through to the halls of Cambridge University, where he reshaped his own life and scholarship.
This is more than an author talk — it is a deeply personal excavation of history, memory, and identity, offering audiences a powerful reflection on how the legacies of slavery continue to reverberate across generations.
The evening will conclude with a Q&A session, providing an opportunity for dialogue, and a chance to purchase signed copies of the publication.
